So, It’s Your First Commercial Photography Shoot? We’ve Got You!

What to expect on a Commercial Photography Shoot with OMS Photography.

Whether its been awhile, or your first time working with a commercial photography studio – the process can feel a little…. overwhelming. What types of questions should you ask? What should you prepare? Who should be on-site? How long does it all take?

At OMS Photography, we’ve helped hundreds of brands and agencies – ranging from emerging startups to Fortune 500s bring their vision to life through high-impact photography, videography and retouching. Across food, drinks, product, people or spaces, the right preparation and partnership can make a huge difference.

Here’s what to except when you book a commercial shoot with the OMS Photography team.

Step One: Discovery + Pre-Production

Before our team picks up a camera, we spend time getting to know you, your brand, your goals and your creative vision. This step typically includes:

  • A kickoff call to review your project scope, deliverables and desired outcomes
  • Sharing and exchanging creative references or inspiration
  • Matching you with the right photographer, videographer or editor from our in-house team (if you don’t already have someone from our team in mind)
  • Deciding on location, set design, talent, props, etc.
  • Finalizing the shotlist and production schedule

At OMS, we are lucky enough to have an in-house producer, Nancy Armstrong, and production assistant, Ella Calhoun, who handle all of the logistics – whether it’s sourcing props, booking talent, securing permits, scouting locations, coordinating food stylists, or organizing and inventory product – they’ve got you covered.

Step Two: Shoot Day

Whether you’re on set or tuning in remotely, we’ll keep the process collaborative, efficient and fun. A typical shoot day includes:

  • A short prep or setup window for lighting, staging and testing angles
  • Real-time collaboration with your team to ensure creative alignment
  • Live-streaming image previews directly from camera to screen

We will provide breakfast, lunch and lots of snacks to keep you and your team fueled and energized. We also have multiple client-friendly workspaces for meetings, calls, or a quiet place to work. We know you’re busy and we’re here to make you feel at ease and at home.

Step Three: Post-Production

Once the shoot wraps, our in-house editing team gets to work (if this is included in your scope). You can expect:

  • A curated proofing gallery delivered within a few business days for your team to review and leave live comments
  • Professional retouching of your selected images, including color correction, cleanup, and compositing as needed
  • Once approved, final delivery of your high-resolution images in the formats and crops you need—whether for web, social, packaging, or print

We also offer video editing, motion graphics and cutdowns if your projects includes motion capture.

Step Four: Ongoing Support

Many of our clients come back – again and again. Because our entire team is in-house, we can usually guarantee the same crew, which allows for consistency and continuity across your creative assets. Our team loves building rapport with clients and looks forward to new projects. We’re always available to help with:

  • Seasonal refreshes
  • eCommerce and social media asset libraries
  • Packaging and advertising updates
  • Quick turnaround needs or test shoots
  • Spec work for our agency partners

Whether you’re launching a product, updating your brand visuals, or building a full-scale multi-touchpoint campaign, OMS is your creative partner—from concept to completion.
